Ore dake Level Up na Ken Episode 6 Discussion

A short discussion about Ore dake Level Up na Ken Episode 6. The topics include the symbolism of the sunset and anime-added content.

Symbolic Sunset

The first time we see the use of a sunset is in the opening the second time is in the penalty zone and the third is at the end of this episode. I think that the sunset is used as a metaphor for the sun setting on who Sung Jinwoo was and the Night contrast in the intro is who he is becoming. The reason I think the penalty zone used the same colours is because until he has conquered it he has not set the sun on his weak self.

In the end, Sung Jinwoo said he is glad he gave her the umbrella when it started raining referring to his sister. Sung Jinwoo just killed human beings for the first time he has to be wondering where his own humanity is but with that sentimental line about his sister, he confirms that he still cares for humanity and not turning into a psychopathic false ranker. A welcome scene to show Sung Jinwoo's mind state.

Do you agree with my take on the symbolism?

We get some clarity on the viper and the golem's strength they were a high D rank and a low D rank. I thought the Viper was a low C rank for some reason.

Yoo Jinhoo's armour cost more than he probably expected to make in the raid. Remember that Sung Jinwoo bought a weapon when he was an e rank but after it broke he did not make enough to cover the cost. Yoo Jinhoo is not in this for this raid's money it does not add up. To anime-only viewers what do you think motivated him to go on a raid?

Rank Matters And Added Content

Time and time again we are told of the disparity between ranks. This episode added some content that I thought was amazing for context. The added content of the chairman first talks about what could happen in the dungeon and how human nature could rear its ugly head. Interesting choice words considering this is the first time Jinwoo has killed humans.

Secondly, the S rank added content. According to him when he was active he was stronger but even with that, he could easily overpower a lower rank in a spar. Cha Hae-in easily defeated an A-rank monster that a group of lesser ranks were struggling against.

This coincides with the theme of the episode. The murderous hunters first assume that Jinwoo and Yoo Jinhoo can do nothing against the spider because of the disparity in rank. Sung Jinwoo being able to take on a stronger opponent and win is a huge deal in this world and completely unexpected.

Thirdly
What I liked about the spar was that it showed how all other hunters enhance themselves. While they are refining technique Sun Jinwoo is leveling up. He defies convention twice first by beating something stronger and then by actually getting stronger. I wonder if there is any technical way for mages to improve?

Ye Han And Zhu Long Recap

I don't wanna jinx it but I think it's safe to say that Mad Snail is on top of his game bringing Ye Han back in chapter 463 after we had forgotten about him.

Quick reminder it was a while ago Ye Han was the city lord's adopted son the one who poisoned him, Nie Li used his fanged panda to blast a Ying Yang ball at him and he fell into the abyss never to be seen again until now. I have made a small montage of the event as a reminder. This happened a little over 200 chapters ago so like 2 years ago for us readers.

I remember the last vision of Zhu Long was when he was enclosed in ice I believe he had a problem with the Goddess Yu Yan.

Interestingly I think Zhu Long was telling the truth when he said that he would make the master of the Never Realm his right-hand man. I think he says he values a man with ambition but I think he means people he can corrupt with greed. I don't think he was just trying to get him to lower the barrier.

Do you think he would have made the master of the Nether Realm his right-hand man?

Perhaps Ye Han Is No Longer Human

I am not entirely sure about this but I think the reason no one can sense the remaining humans is because of the barrier and the reason he cannot sense Ye Han is because he is not entirely human anymore, he looks like a zombie.

Why do you think he could not sense the other humans?

Chapter 463 Surpass Your Limits Set Up

So the boundary between the tiny world and the draconic world may close within a time limit. Interesting to mention that now as that will create a sense of urgency in terms of how many people Nie Li can take outside of the Tiny World.

I can't imagine them just leaving Ye Han there and escaping because of the small remaining humans and I cannot see Ye Han and Zhu Long letting them go.

The underlying point is that there is a clear time limit on defeating Ye Han and Zhu Long which will force Nie Li to pull out all the stops. I think the time limit is to help create the specific circumstances. They have all the time in the book so this is a welcome paradox.

As we know the laws can be seized by whoever understands them best. I think this fiasco will end with Lua Piao seizing the power from Ye Han given his chaotic affinity and understanding that Nie Li passed onto him. We also have to consider that everyone is in the book so time is moving much slower to them. De Zu said that reaching the ancestor martial realm is not just about time but That sounds like the good old trope of surpassing your limits in a high-stress situation and introduces some necessary limits on how much the temporal spirit book will allow them to improve. I think that the fight with Ye Han and Zhu Long will force Ni Lie to rely on his friends this lifetime around and they will break their limits together and benefit from their linked soul realms. Remember when Duan Jian reached legend rank in his fight against the silver-winged patriarch and everyone got a boost to their cultivation.

Who among the group do you think will break into the ancestral martial realm first?

Ore Dake Level Up na Ken Episode 4 Discussion. Read my thoughts about episode 4 of Solo Leveling.  I have given my own thoughts and you can choose to respond in the comments or add anything you want to about the topic in the comments.

World Building

We got some terrific world-building in the form of the army As we know dungeon creatures cannot be hurt by regular weapons and you cannot record what happens in a dungeon. The soldier was standing away from the portal not towards it, why? He is not there to protect the public from what may come out of the portal because he cannot he is there to control the public. People who guns actually work on. You have to consider what Hunters mean to a country's military might and their ability to contain dungeons. If the dungeons suddenly disappeared hunters would be a coveted military weapon.

To the general public seeing hunters fight against monsters is a novelty, dungeon breaks are the only time they see these things so their excitement is understandable. If this happened in our world it would be quite a spectacle with the press swarming around any chance they get.

Inexperience

Sung is not just growing in terms of stats he is growing as a hunter. There are some scenes that do a great job highlighting that. When Sung Jinwoo delivers a finishing blow to a Lycan he gets the sword stuck in the ground. This indicated some things, number one he is not accustomed to his new strength and two he is inexperienced. If anyone is familiar with the series Goblin Slayer the very first episode or episodes an inexperienced adventurer takes a long sword into a confined space and hits it on a ceiling when he tries to slay a goblin. Thirdly he wielded never had this type of weapon before. He was used to taking out enemies with his bare hands because he could not afford a weapon that would not break. If you were a hunter like in the Solo Leveling anime what weapon would you choose?

Sung Jinwoo Developing A Solo Leveling Mentality

Taking on this dungeon has been crucial to Sung Jinwoo developing a mentality towards taking on dungeon solo. Sung repeatedly goes back to the party mentality while the system gives him every reason not to need one. In his bag are food and water remember he almost starved to death in a dungeon once until someone undoubtedly rescued him. He also worries about a healer even though he now recovers when he levels up. I think the irony of him beating a level C boss was intentional considering the strongest fighter he would venture with as a level C Mr Song. He doesn't need others anymore and no one is coming to save him. I think this is the beginning of Sung favouring Solo Leveling where as before he was so weak he depended on a party.

Perception

We got a great explanation as to the strength levels of Sung's enemies in comparison to him. For every other hunter, their strength is limited so there is no benefit in taking on enemies stronger than themselves. The first enemies he faced were goblins who were all orange, so about as strong as him then the Steel-fanged Lycan who was red so stronger.

He defeats the Lycan who is stronger than him with a weapon and the snake or Blue Venom fanged Kasaka who was orange with his strength stat. Orange means equal footing, stronger than his weapon but not him. Sung is a hunter who can perceive his enemy's strength and choose to fight them anyway to level up. From the very beginning, the system is teaching Sung to take on enemies stronger than himself. At the end of the episode, Sung played a pivotal role in the fight the hunters were struggling with. He could have taken the boss down himself. He does not acknowledge his own strength he thinks the other hunters weakened the golem. I think the reason is that he still sees himself as needing other hunters.
