Danmachi Season 5 Episode 9 Critique


 

Why No Episode Opening Exposes Hedin 

I don't know if anyone else noticed but episode 9 did not play the introduction.  You could argue that it would have spoiled this episode because it shows exactly what Hestia did and why play the same scene twice. From the first time I saw this season's intro, I considered making a prediction video and or post based on it but decided not to. I think they left it out of episode 9 because of how much it would have spoiled this episode and perhaps because of what it spoils going forward.

I am gonna talk about my predictions based on the intro and then talk a fair bit more about Hedin.



Ryu Hair Is Like  Measure Of Time

In the first episode of the season, Bell notes how much Ryu's hair has grown. In the opening, we can see that Ryu's hair has grown even longer. This suggests to me that Ryu has gone on some kind of a journey before she fights the Freya Familia.




Mama Mia Acts

As we know Mama Mia will go to bat for her girls, in the introduction she is not wearing gear and her weapon is a spade so she is not combat prepared my guess is that she will intervene when she can no longer see her girls and Ryu suffer. I believe she will start as a spectator and will intervene because of Ottar specifically. I do wonder if she misses Syr.



War Game Competition

Allen looks to be trying to catch or race Bell so perhaps war games do not only have to include direct combat perhaps there are other forms of competition.



Provocation

I am not sure who is walking through the fire but I think it is the Freya Familia nurse. Perhaps it's just the fire magic but she looks genuinely very angry so there must be a reason which brings us to Hedin.





Finally To Hedin

Hedin has seemed shifty for the last couple of episodes even the Freya Familia thought he was too hard on Bell.  He justified it as the need to break Bell.

The reason I am paying particular attention to him is because of what the introduction does not show, it does not show who he is fighting it just shows him using his magic. He has a shadowy theme which could convey deception and he is facing the audience directly which could convey him turning on us or the Freya Familia directly. 


Now I do not think he will betray Freya because you cannot lie to a god and when he said that he wanted to train Bell to Serve Freya's best interest he must have been telling the truth. In episode nine again shrouded in shadow Hedin lets Bell escape. My interpretation is that Hedin will act in what he thinks Freya's best interest is even if that means betraying her. A smart character who thinks they know better. Technically he is not lying to Freya.

Welcome To My Critique Of Danmachi Season 5 Episode 6

I will cover the potential possibilities unleashed by Bell's update, a quote that sums up the limitations of Freya's charms and ask a slightly important question at the end. This is anime only so please no spoilers but anyone can find this interesting so please leave a comment if you want to discuss anything here.




It Must Have Felt So Real To Bell

Bell is such an honest soul who seems to have the ability to read people so to see him so disoriented is a huge deal. He was able to figure out that Lili was lonely so when his Familia rejected him it must have felt so real to him because he knew they were telling their truths. 


Why Fells Needed To Fall Victim

To think that even Fells is under Freya's charm was a shock but I knew that they would have to have some way to stop the Xenos from being alerted to Bell's predicament as Freya said some adventures who were in the dungeon may have escaped her charm so the Xenos in the deep dungeon would have as well. Fells isn't going to tell them.

The Freya Famlia's way of strengthening themselves is brutal but it does give some context as to why we do not see their members in the dungeon that often it also justifies Bell not going into the dungeon.




Skipped Content Suspected

There's an excellent YouTube channel I watch sometimes called Aninews that fills in blanks left out by animes. Based on Bell's status update from Freya when compared with the last time we saw his status my guess is that he has been with them longer than the anime makes it seem. Maybe a month I'm not sure.



Status Snitch Opens Doors


Two things: I know that Status Snitch allows Freya to update the status of someone not of her Familia and this leaves me with two questions. Firstly can she update regular stats only and not initiate level ups? Hestia said Bell could level up but she did not want the attention and his stats were not S ranks and above yet. Freya did not mention it so it could be more cut content or perhaps she cannot or maybe she is avoiding the fact that she does not know what Bell did to earn the rank up It may not have been in Aina's book like the others.

Number two what about Ryu? Ryu is long overdue for a status update and until now the prospect has never crossed my mind that perhaps another god or goddess could update her status. In the intro we see her fighting the Freya Familia and after how easily she was defeated last time I cannot see her not wanting an update after she gains her memories back.

I have been wondering about the extent of Freya's charm and abilities and why she visited Aina. Did she go to the guild to get information about Bell from Aina's records or was it as a direct alert from Aina's colleague?



From what I can see she can control the mind with her charm, not the heart it is like Freya can make people crazy with love the way Ishtar sent Aisha mad with love and pleasure as punishment but she cannot make people fall in love with her. Love is not control, that's an obsession. Do you think my assessment is accurate?

Solo Leveling Ragnarok Chapter 26 Critique 
In this critique I will cover three main points the prophecy an Esil bond skill set up and team Suho potential evolution potential. The prophecy seems like a misdirect to me. It sounds like it describes Suho breaking his own seal but to others the Scavenger Guild, it may seem to be describing the circumstances of the dungeon.


I think that this misdirection is intentional in setting up a confrontation.

I wonder if this is one of those history repeating itself scenarios with a twist. I am pretty sure that Thomas will come after Suho in this timeline we know how loyal he is to his subordinates. My current guess is that he will assume Suho is the one who killed his strike squad and obtained the prophecy based on his ability to raise the dead, the power Thomas wants.

Do you think he will fight Thomas and if so why?



Not If But When

Esils desire to be of use to Suho is clear but it looks like Gray enjoys his bond with Suho and feels it is being threatened. Suho cleared something up the reason he has not used their bond skill yet in combat is because it has not been tested not because it cannot be done.  This gives us a glimpse into when it will be used, it will be used when Suho cannot win with his and Gray's combined might which might be very soon given how that monster just took out the Scavenger guild members. Whenever Jinwoo was in trouble his last-ditch was the daily reward recovery status, I think that combining is Suho's. My money is on the next couple of chapters.

When do you think Esil and Suho will combine? 



Evolution By Design


We know that the system has produced a levelling system for Esil and Grey, as we know Jinwoo was inhereting more power as he leveled up and Suho is reawakening more of his power so there is a cap. Esil is also returning to full strenght and Grey is still growing.

With the emergence of an intelligent demon capable of speech perhaps Esil can grow stronger than she originally was by drinking its blood.

Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation Season 2 Episode 22 Critique



It is by far the most emotional addition to this season of Mushoku. Throughout his whole ordeal, my mind has been reminding me of the Man God's warning about Rudeus regretting going to save Zenith. We got death flag after death flag, once Rudeus successfully saved Roxy I knew that things were going too well and that someone had to die. 


As an anime-only, I suspected Paul for a couple of reasons although this episode did a fair job of redirecting me with the Elinalise scares. She was the first to be injured and when she blocked for Rudeus the blood splattered on his face a trope often used to symbolise witnessing death.

Why I Suspected Paul

My first noted major flag was Rudeus's vision about having Paul and the family together. Another reason I suspected Paul was the talks he was having with Rudy now that he was married, coming of age can be very passing the baton. 



How I Saw It Going Down

Although I suspected Paul would die this episode or next the way it happened surprised me. Until now, we had only really seen Rudeus's eye from the perspective of attacks against him. His seeing Paul's movements made me think that he would see Paul's death directly before it happened and be unable to do anything about it. 

Which death flag sticks out the most to you in your mind?



Darth Rudues

The shadow cast by the loss of Paul is so great that the loss of his arm seems meaningless. Rudeus himself said that "I beat a hydra and only lost my left arm". 

I do not think that Rudeus's lost arm will be permanent at all. I think it was Rudues's first time using such advanced healing magic, I never heard it before but I know it is more advanced than anything anime Rudeus has used in the anime before.

It was like a way of saying if he cannot even regenerate an arm it's not even worth trying to save Paul from the condition he was in. Rudeus himself said that more advanced healing magic could regenerate his arm so it's only a matter of time before he gains that type of knowledge or perhaps a healing scroll. My current best guess is that Nanahoshi can help him she was there when Orsted nearly killed him the last time and he was fixed up as good as new. Maybe she has an item or knowledge he can use to heal his arm. 

After they found that moving doll does anyone like the idea of Rudeus getting a mechanical arm he can move with magic?



Last Thoughts

This is where I think the light novel readers can chip in if it is not a future spoiler, Paul's final thoughts. Paul died knowing he had saved Rudeus, not Zenith. He told Rudy to save his mother even at the cost of his own life something he knew a father should not say.  I guess that his last thoughts were something like see your father is dependable in the end with an alive Rudeus being his last vision.

How Does Orsted Know Eris

 

 How Does Orsted Know Eris And Everyone

The way Orsted talked about Eris and Ruijerd was like he knew them. I have been whacking my brain as to how. My earlier thoughts were that time and space are connected and maybe he had something to do with the Mass teleportation event. Nanahoshi said they used teleportation magic so maybe he also has some form of time travel magic unknown to most of the world. But then why did he not know Rudeus? I think that he has some type of vision, what are the odds of him just stumbling across Nanahoshi, he must have had some foresight about her location.  He knows Paul has two daughters but not Rudy. Maybe because Rudy is not originally from the same world Orsted cannot quite see Redeus's life path. I imagine Orsted having some kind of reason for keeping tabs on everyone look how he attacked Rudy when he thought he had something to do with the man god. And the man god said he cannot predict Orsted. Perhaps the inverse is true and if the man god had something to do with Rudeus's being brought to this world Orsted cannot see his life like with the others he has run into to. Either way the rules of this world do not seem to entirely apply to Rudy so whatever sense Orsted has of the world does not apply entirely to Rudy. 

Some Anime Dialogue For Context

Orsted: is that Riujerd superdia I hear? And you must be Eris Boreas Geyrat.

Orsted To Rudy: And... you I don't recognize.

Orsted To Eris: You've improved considerably I always thought you had potential but lacked polish.

Orsted: I didn't expect to encounter you here but it's not important

Nanahoshi: Isn't it? 

Orsted: I can't do anything about it now 

Redeus To I Orsted: Excuse me do you know the two of them 

Orsted: No haven't met them yet

Rudeus: yet? what do you mean?  

Orsted: You don't need to know that.

Orsted: Paul shouldn't have a son only two daughters

How I Think Orsted Knows Everyone

To keep it simple I believe Orsted has some kind of world sense or monitoring magic that applies specifically to the world he is in. What are your thoughts?

Why Can Rudeus Beat Orsted in Rudy Vs Laplace Round 2.  These are my thoughts how the Mushoku Tensei anime is setting up an eventual rematch between Redeus, why it would happen and how Rudy  may fare.

What Is Redues Integrating And What Does He Need To Integrate build up development

What Rudy Has Integrated From The Last Fight

Rudy is integrating the missing pieces of the puzzle from his last fight with Orsted. Orsted asked him last time why he did not use incantation-less healing, as we the viewers know he couldn't. 

First, he learned to use disturb magic now he is learning incantation-less healing magic from Sylphi. With these two skills, he may survive Orsted.




Why Rudeus Need To Develop/ Integrate The Warrior

Rudy must integrate the warrior development not fully integrated

One of  Rudy's weaknesses last time was physical he saw his impalement before it happened with his demon eye and was so overwhelmed he could not react. I believe this is in part due to his physical limitations. It reminded me of the fight in Naruto between Rock Lee and Sasuke, yes Sasuke could see and predict Rock Lee's movements but his body could not react fast enough to respond. 



Orsted pierced straight through Rudy with the same technique he used to take Ruijerd out, although it did not pierce Ruijerd's skin. 

We have seen Rudy perform push-ups, squats, and sword and swings and his body has undergone a transformation but his style has not. After how easily he defeated Luke it is apparent to me that has potential value as a warrior although he does not see it himself as yet there may be a call for development. I think that he must become more physical to survive a fight with Orsted, what good is Incantation-less healing if you are damaged beyond repair?



Proof Redues Can Kill Orsted

Rudues was able to obliterate Babidagi with the attack he used to injure Orsted with the difference being he was at full strength. This is a clear sign to me that Rudeus could potentially kill Orsted, what would have happened if Rudues had launched that attack at Orsted with full power? I think Badigagi is used as a way to show the viewer the destructive power of Redeus's offensive magic and what could have happened.



Why And When Would Redues Fight Orsted Again?

The reason Rudy would willingly fight him would have to be substantial we have seen how terrified he was of Orsted from how he reacted to meeting Nanahoshi a second time so this is not a fight Rudy will take willingly. In the last fight, Rudy clung on for dear life even when bleeding out. To commit to fighting Orsted properly I think that he will have to be willing to lose his own life.  Orsted stands as a growth measurement for Rudy in my opinion as a person and adventurer, he's a ceiling that Rudy's growth can be tested against. So I do not see the fight happening until Rudeus has grown enough and the story is closer to the end. What does he do after defeating the top?

Conclusion

To keep it simple I think the answer to whether or not our reincarnated protagonist can win is yes, but not yet. 




How I See It going Down

Rudy Over Powers Orsted's Guard

I don't think Rudy could take him on right now but I think in the future with the right development he could.

Redeus clearly showed he has the magical capacity to hurt Orsted. In the last fight, Rudy used an insanely large fireball while half dead and Orsted countered with Wymergate that was fractured by Rudeus's output so I imagine a healthy Rudy being able to break his guard. This is a huge rematch flag it shows Rudy the potential to break what could be  Orsted's strongest guard. 



Last Time He Was Half Dead

A half-dead Rudy inflicting an injury on Orsted is a big deal. 



Rudy Nearly Dies Several Times In The Fight

I don't think Rudy can evade a fighter as experienced as Orsted forever So I imagine he will need the incantation-less healing and a strong enough body to use it. I see Orsted nearly killing Redues again. Last time he had countermeasures for dealing with a magician, destroying Redues's lungs so he could not speak incantationans and the disturb magic. Orsted is not only powerful he adjusts tactics based on opponents so I imagine him adjusting to Redues's developments.

Anyway with those elements,  I think that Rudeus has a very good chance of defeating Orsted just about, I don't know when they will fight and based on the amount of development required and that Orsted is basically like a final boss it will take a while. Even though I think with the right resolve Rudy could win I think he could die in the process. It would be very poetic considering he died the first time saving a schoolgirl we now know as Nanahoshi. First, he dies with nothing to lose and then with everything to save.

Is Paul Putting On Brave Face?



In episode 14 of season 2 Paul sounds incredibly responsible like he has got it under control but we know from the introduction that Rudy and he will team up to rescue Zenith. I don't know if he is putting on a brave face but, body language in the suggests he is troubled by the task at hand and after he and Rudy 's last fight he may be feeling the effects of his own conscience after putting the burdens of a man onto a child.

Perhaps he feels as though Rudy is a child although a prodigy that he is still a child or at least he was the last time they met. Perhaps it's just the stress of not having his wife but I think he has bitten off more than he can chew and is afraid to ask for help from Rudy.
