Young Justice Between Season 2 And 3
In the very last episode of Young Justice season, 2 Aqualad is heard in the background giving out three missions to the team in the first episode of season 3 we only hear about the first two missions before Dick says business as usual. We learn that the first episode of season 3 begins two years after the last episode of season two ended on July 4th. These final missions give us some idea of what happened between season 2 and 3.



Mission 1
Aqualad: "Superboy, Miss Martian, Beast boy your alpha B'arzz O'oomm has called from mars needs help"
B'arzz O'oomm is the green martian and former green beetle who had his scarab destroyed in a fight with Black Beetle.
After the time skip we get to see Meggan as a bald martian the from she told the team was her true form to which Wally remarked "Bald Megan still hot" with the difference being last time she was bald she was pretending she was a green martian this time she was bald and white. Miss Martian faced discrimination on mars for being a white martian, I suspect that because of her time on earth and because Superboy accepts her after she went back to mars for the mission to help B'arzz O'oomm she was able to develop a sense of self strong enough to make her comfortable enough  to be not just an open martian but an open white martian.

Mission 2

 Aqualad: "Tigress, Kid Flash (Bart Allen) Bumblebee Guardian your beta Lex Corp Is Bringing Out the Reach Soft DRink Under A New name we need proof"




The third mission that was left out of season 3's opening as mention by Aqualad "The rest of you are gamma and will investigate batgirls lead on vandal Savages next move" the rest of them being those not selected for the other missions so Batgirl obviously, Static, Lagan, Tim Drake Robin, and Wondergirl. In the final scene vandal savage remarks business as usual and shakes hands with Darkseid.

A lot of the season 3 redesigns for costumes look like the new 52 costumes, from what I've been told they are from the same designer so I suspect Darkseid got a new design that is similar to the new 52 design perhaps that is why they did not show his scene so the newer design would not look out of place or maybe they think we may have forgotten and are trying to increase suspense. We have already seen Parademons in episode 1 of season 3 and they look just like the new 52 Parademons.


We also have more members of the league like Ice and Steel in my episode 1 critique I talked a lot about why I think some of the new characters have been introduced or at least shown it's a good read.

Gar's Role

When I first saw gar I thought he was there to give us a feel of how the citizens feel about current events and inform the citizens of events but what he really does is inform us the viewer of this universes event without breaking the 4th wall. This is a very useful way to fill in blanks from the time skip and helps to remind us of past events that may still be relevant and considering after a five year hiatus some of us may be a little hazy on our young justice history. On a side note when your green how do you have a choice over whether to be an openly meta civilian or not what would you tell people that you really like to eat your spinach, you followed Popeye the sailor mans advice but instead super strength and lump muscles you turned greener than a cucumber. I know they have could have identity hiding tech or a Zatanna charm will do but still what choice to most Meta's that look like meta's or monsters have over whether they are open or not. Who are the other Openly meta civilians? Gar said he is one of the very few so who is the others?

Wally Reminders
I thought episode one would be enough wally reminders but when the writers went out of their way to have Gar say he met Queen Perdita at a funeral of a fast friend of ours it was clear the writers wanted us to make no mistake, he was talking about wally otherwise why not just say we met at a friends funeral?

Perhaps it's simply about the interest the writers know the fans want wally west to return and constantly teasing him keeps us watching for the hope of a return. So at the risk of hanging onto something that may never come I'm going to make a slight case for Wally to return.

When the girl Artemis/Tigress saved was attacked by the controlled Meta she was nearly killed and then healed herself and then almost immediately after the boy meta was shot straight through the heart and actually killed. What they were doing was telling us the limitations of her powers by having her state "No Life Cannot Heal" as the reason she could not save him. What this does is set up the conditions for the future use of her powers of which will undoubtedly be important for future episodes. I think you can probably see where I'm going with this. Energy cannot be destroyed only transferred or transformed so If it was discovered that Wally was in some way alive and the energy from the magnetic field disruptor perhaps altered his state and the requirements of the girl's powers will allow her to restore wally to his original form as energy is life.

To build further on a long shot of a long shot if Wally was alive in some way Lex would know. it was his plan to have The Flash and impulse use their speed to counter the Magnetic Field disruptor, he's smart enough to figure out if Wally was alive and would only reveal it if it benefits him.

For now, I do think Wally's dead but wanted to suggest a way he could be alive in a universe that has not been confirmed to have the speed force.

Every mention of Wally is very sad I feel as though they let him died but won't let us live without him but if I'm honest and go back to my original point the idea of a wally return increases the chances that I and I think other original young Justice fans will keep watching, retaining viewership even if he stays dead. I think that's the main reason he will definitely keep showing up in mentions or other forms.
 If anyone has a way wally could return other than the speed force or has something to say about my way I really would love to hear it.


Drama Fails

When you take the spy approach you need two things unless it's a comedy those things are cool and drama.

The cool part is easy it's all about the gadgets and so far young justice season 3 has done okay but where they need to be stronger is the drama. Drama works when it surprises you with great twist and turns. I feel the drama has been very forced when the girl said kill in that tone it was so out of character it was not believable.I was shocked for a second but knew it was just a ploy to send viewers off the trail in order to make the drama hit harder but it didn't quite work it was too obvious with not enough set up.

Cool Gadgets

When Oracle is communicating with Dick it's always written that's probably because voice communication would be easier to intercept. It was a nice touch that Oracle lost the signal when Dick went through the door and the robot beetle switched to functioning on Dick's voice control without a Oracle controlling it or influences, probably courtesy of a Wayne satellite. I find superboy following prince Brion with infrared to be a nice touch, infrared can be used to see heat. These are small details but I do personally find them cool, oh my god I'm such a nerd. You don't realize it until you read your own thoughts out loud, oh well these things fascinate me. Any way please share your thoughts on my wally theory and maybe a theory of your own.

Agent Grayson Inspiration

This episode seemed like something out of a spy movie which made me remember something which I think was a large part of the inspiration. A few years ago I was on Youtube channel called comicstorian and ran into a story called Agent Grayson, it was basically Dick Grayson as a spy who infiltrates an organization called Spyral and I think it relates heavily to this episode inspiration.

Development
Since impulse revealed Nightwing was Dick Grayson it forced development.
In hindsight the writers were probably already planning on a plot that required Dick and the team to work without masks and impulse revealing Dicks identity was a way to set up that plot, Batman may never have given dick permission to reveal who he was to the team.

Does anyone remember the scene when Artemis has her first day  school at when Dick takes a picture with her and says we'll laugh about this someday?

I wonder if they did have that laugh I bet it's nearly as funny as the one about the time they decided to fake Artemis's death, that must kill at superhero parties pun intended.

I still see Artemis as Artemis and not Tigress, she'd have to be brunette for me to see her as Tigress.

Superboy was initially the angriest member of the team and liable to break things, Dick trusting him in a covert mission shows how he may not grow physically but he does mentally. He never even thought about smashing the secret door and when he was reminded of Cadmus kept it under control.



Beast Boy sounds older he's voiced by Greg Cipes now and not Logan Grove. I love Greg Cipe's voice it gives a playful theme the character known to monkey around playfully and literally. Looked like he was a TV show so did he get into acting like his mum in this universe? I remember how obsessed the teen titans Beast Boy was with TV Shows. The eagle is the American symbol so when Beast Boy turned into an eagle to scream it tells us who his main audience is even though he was talking about the kidnappings worldwide.



Agent Super Boy And Black Lightning 
I really liked the sound effect when Superboy used his Super hearing to hear the four heartbeats. Black lightning cannot use his powers in a way that could hurt anyone but the can still use non-offensive powers like sensing electricity. The only way I see him getting over his block is when he is forced to use his offensive powers to protect someone

The camera's don't show their own faces instead their faces look like spirals referring to the Spyral inspiration from Agent Grayson.

Superboy Quote "now all we have to do is live to tell someone"

If Superboy was not a main character I would consider that a  serious death flag if I ever heard one.

When Black lightning fell on his spine I thought he would be damn near crippled.





Perhaps Budgeting Or Time


I am not an animator but I am observant. The fight scene with Artemis/Tigress seemed very stiff not a lot of framed were used, this gave the viewer the impression that they were moving quickly and when Tigress did a flip back they used a blur effect to emphasize speed. More frames cost time and money but the would have made the fight look smoother but why waist budget and time on a petty villain. The animator or animators had to get a lot out of a limited budget or perhaps time but more frames would have made the animation look smoother.

One of the gravedigger's Tigress fights had a British accent this tells us that most if not all of the trafficking of metahumans is orchestrated by a large organisation with operatives in various countries rather than individuals and small organizations trafficking metahumans for profit.




Rescued Girl

She did not hesitate at all after a woman she does not know with a mask on and arrows offers to help her. She has some kind of advanced intuition that is a result of her powers. Her powers are light based so perhaps she is able to see the inner light or soul of sentient beings like Tigress/Artemis the Sphere who is she able to instantly connect with. If a normal person had gone through the ordeal that landed her in the grave plus the further ordeal of reviving only to have people attempt to bury them alive that person would struggle to trust anyone.

Lex Has A Plan
In Agent Grayson, we discover that the Spyral organisation is trying to create metahumans superior to the justice league and I think that's where young justice season 3 is going. Lex has intentionally backed the Justice League into a corner and he played a part in the technology Spyral uses in the comics I wouldn't be surprised if he has a hand in this he always gives you the feeling that he is behind scenes and in your face at the same time when he is portrayed well.
The Chips used to control the Meta's could be Lex's doing who else could make something that technologically advanced?

Uncle's In The Clear


We know from the cliffhanger that count Vertigo is talking to either the King or the Crowned prince because only they are addressed as your highness and the king is dead. The count alluded that the prince may be being involved with the meta trafficking when he said: "do you really know how our brother would react more people are fine with this sort of thing than you'd imagine". The uncle earned himself some credit last episode by shooting the assassin speedster in the back who was not actually faster than a speeding bullet. For two reasons I suspect the Assassin was from Bialya, first, judging by the similarities between his complexion and the complexion of the Bialya Ambassador Sumaan harjavti. Secondly, Bialya has a history of only producing a super powered individual who are wanted criminals and where would you get a meta criminal assassin somewhere that produces them.


I think it's pretty obvious that Prince Brion will get powers it seems like the doctor Jace's plan. She disobeyed Vertigo's orders and clearly has a strong connection with prince Brion. The question is how long has she been working with Simon Ecks did she pretend long enough to turn Brion into a Meta?

She's known him for a while he really trusts her and she seemed genuinely concerned, her relationship with him seems maternal.
Nap Nap
That calm relaxing music after the action makes me feel as though I'm being sedated after all this tension. It's like you should be wild about having to wait but we release 3 episodes at once so just chill.

Young Justice Season 3 Episode 1 Review

Young Justice Season 3 Episode 1 Review Princes All
The redesigns for Justice league members was a little unexpected but given the time skip, it can be justified. Seeing wonder woman and Superman in the new 52 costumes definitely got me thinking about potential cross over events but I don't think that's the main reason, I elaborate in the paragraph about corresponding elements.

Black Lightning 
The black lighting redesign makes him look more like the Black Lightning from the CW show which is good for fans of both because it gives them an entity they are more familiar with. I'm pretty sure they also got Black Lightning a different voice actor for season 3. I think it's the same voice that does Cyborg in Teen Titans and the dreaded Teen Titans GO. Black Lightnings Powers may be connected to his emotions so given the trauma of killing a girl probably not too far off his own daughter's ages could be what has short-circuited Black Lightnings Powers.


Near the end of the episode when talking to his Ex-wife a picture of Black Lightning winning an athletic medal was strategically placed to show us that even without his powers he is still an amazing athlete and justify whatever heroic feats he displays in the coming episodes or episode without his powers.

Season 3 Developments

Megan has definitely become more open in the time skip she finally feels secure enough to let her hair down so to speak.

Impulse has grown still never shuts up.

Batgirl is referring to herself as Oracle now I'm pretty sure she didn't do that last season and after hearing her use the term crash it's clear she has spent a lot of time round impulse.

Am I the only one who struggled to keep a face when Will/Roy said Richard I mean Dick. Alfred actually refers to him as master dick.


We are painfully reminded of Wally's death when a bed for two is clearly being occupied by one. Usually when your use to being alone you use the full range of the bed but if you sleep on one side the way Artemis does it implies you see the other side as belonging or still belonging to someone else, I don't know if anyone else perceived it that way but it made me a little sad.

Who would come up with the idea to name a dog Bruce Lee? Wally obviously little things like this brings it all back and just shows us how alive wally still is in spirit. I know we all probably hope he went into the speed force and is coming back at some point but we don't know if that's how this universe works or if Young Justice will survive long enough to get us there. If they can remove legend of Korra for Spongebob and replace Teen Titans with Teen Titans Go then we all know it's not always a matter of quality but more a matter of viewership.


It's easy to forget in a show filled with super-powered heroes that guns can still be useful.


Corresponding Elements
Characters that are showing up in other DC based shows also showed up in the first episode of young justice season 3. I don't think we are going to get a cross over but instead, I think that the script will correspond with similar events in other DC shows and offer continuity from slightly different angles. We got to see Batwoman in a couple of the Elseworld episodes and now she shows up in a hologram. Notice with the exception of Wonder Woman the holograms didn't say anything,  the  characters shown may not even have voice actors.

 Superman being out in space for an unspecified time corresponds with the aftermath of the death of Superman. Both scripts demand that someone tries to fill Superman's shoes and Conner said he feels a burden makes sense because of the big boots to fill. Look at who else was introduced this episode, Steel another replacement character for Superman like Superboy. Corresponding scripts and elements help people who do not watch every show to get into another DC show because they are familiar with some elements and not only does young justice want the old fans but they probably also want new ones, viewership counts.

Young Justice Has Not Returned It Never Left
I felt like I was visiting an old friend when I watched this episode it didn't feel like I'd been away from young justice for as long as it's been. It felt like we picked up right where we left off with organic changes. I almost forgot to mention that ending with Bruce Lee sleeping with the Kid Flash doll they just won't let my heart heal or perhaps they are setting up a return so any new fans aren't blinds sighted.

Black Lightning Season 2 Episode 1 Thoughts

Black Lightning Season 2 Episode 1 Thoughts The Book of Consequences: Chapter One: Rise of the Green Light Babies

Are any of us surprised that the detective figured out who black lightning was I mean he is a detective he detects things? I actually liked the explanation last season that black lightning's powers prevent people from seeing his face. Cause in the first episode of last season when he saved his daughters it was hard to imagine people not knowing who is when the light from his powers made his mask see through. This season is the book of consequences and that's what we are going to get.

Shine Off

I think we all had one very important question to ask ourselves what shines brighter the interrogator's head or Jennifer when she glows, you may ask yourself do I laugh or grin at my own jokes and the answer in regards to this particular light show is that I'm beaming. His head screams wax on wax off shiny.

ASA Does Not Teach Camouflage Techniques

Usually, when people need to hide for their lives they don't wear a suit that is so shiny it could have them nominated in the glow awards this episode 1 or maybe for the whole of season 2. Were you going to try to blend at an MC hammer convention does this universe have an MC Hammer.

Give The Fight Choreographer A Raise

One of the things I liked last season was that it showed black lightning's athletic ability in the fight choreography he was not just some static guy overcompensating with his powers he uses his powers to enhance his athletic fighting style.

I really liked the fight choreography for this episode it does not take an insane budget to produce quality. When Syonide got stabbed in the neck I kept thinking that won't heel, I know that was a little lame but I could not help but laugh to myself.

Robbing criminals for money is never wise these people kill for money and you are taking theirs, this little streak cannot last they will communicate and eventually come up with a plan anticipating you coming for their loot with a trap set.
 I think with the emergence of the new metahumans we are all hoping and waiting on an appearance from static. That ED joke she came for the D, love the chemistry between them. Jefferson's ex-wife has had to watch him get hurt a lot as a hero and now she can be a hero Jefferson may have to experience some the same fears as she did watching him risk his life. I feel like we are going to see a lot of arguing in season 2.




Something To Lose VS Nothing To Lose

When I watched this episode I thought this season continues the theme of family from two opposite ends of the spectrum. Tobias has nothing left to lose and that makes me think he will be far more destructive this season. Tobias will not stop until he gets Kara and she knows who black lightning is giving her some leverage to bargain with black lightning. Why should he help her now he know she was a member of the ASA, answer the fear of losing his family and Tobias has just lost the last of his. Tobias will care less about the consequences of his actions and as we have seen the Pierce family who still have each other to lose and a community to protect will care more about theirs. Losing his position as principal and someone else discovering his identity this is just the start of the consequences to come episode one set up some great foreshadowing after all this season is called the book of consequences.
